Feedback about Grouse, Woodpeckers and Owls tour

We are pleased when our clients feel happy after tours. This is a feedback we received from our guest Bob from England. Two weeks ago he joined one of our tours focused on Grouse, Woodpeckers and Owls.

“I was delighted to join Birding Lithuania Tours for their annual “Owls, Grouse & Woodpeckers” tour, a wonderful birding trip into some of Lithuania’s most pristine forest habitats with expert guide Armandas. We spent the first part of the journey at Dzukijos National Park and the special birds of extensive pine forests and ancient bog habitats didn’t disappoint the group. Once in a lifetime views of a lekking male Capercaillie , a visit to the largest Black Grouse Lek in Lithuania and a close up encounter with two Elk were unforgettable moments for myself and the group. We then headed to the Latvian border and the pristine ancient woodland of Birzu forest.
This was our guide Armandas’s local forest and it was a pleasure to watch his fieldcraft and birding skills as he tirelessly located White-backed Woodpecker, several Grey-headed Woodpeckers and even the sought after and difficult to find Three-toed Woodpecker. All of these species gave exceptional views for the photographers and birders alike. It was here in Birzu that we connected and gazed in awe at the majestic Ural Owl and the spritely Pygmy Owl. Again, the views of both were unforgettable and it was beginning to feel like Armandas knew every tree in the forest such was his intimate knowledge of the area. We were also very fortunate to see three Hazel Grouse settled on the sides of the forest path during the trip. The weeklong trip had sadly ended all too soon and as we left to go our separate ways, I knew it wouldn’t be long before I would be heading back to enjoy the top-notch birding Lithuania has to offer. Lithuania has much to offer the visiting birder. A land of ancient forests, vast wetlands and key migration sites on the Baltic Coast. Coupled with internationally important numbers of rare European breeding birds such as White-backed Woodpecker, Hazel Grouse, Ural Owl, Great Snipe and Aquatic Warbler makes it the perfect place for a birding holiday. With friendly English-speaking people, good roads and several birdwatching site guides now available a trip to Lithuania is an easy destination to visit on your own. However, if you want to see the scarcer birds and also experience the culture of Lithuania better and explore the best birding sites, would highly recommend a trip with Lithuania Birding Tours.
