Grand Tour – West & East Lithuania

This tour is designed for those who want to experience the best of Lithuanian wildlife and the chance to tick-off up to 190 species of birds! Hosting three of Lithuania’s greatest birdwatching destinations – Nemunas river delta, Curronian Spit and East Lithuania – this tour offers possible sightings of some of Europe’s rarest birds. The tour begins in West Lithuania at the Nemunas Delta Regional Park – the land of birds – 170 species of winged-beauties breed here, including such rarities: Aquatic Warbler, Great Snipe, Greater-spotted Eagle, Citrine Wagtail and many others. Leaving the delta and crossing the Curonian Lagoon by boat, participants reach another famous Lithuanian birdwatching destination – Curronian Spit National Park. The unparalleled beauty of the unique landscape created by the coastal dunes will soak your eyes and soul together while watching the coastal seabirds and the specialities of the Spit, such as; Blyth’s Reed and Greenish Warblers or Tawny Pipit. Transfering to East Lithuania will allow you to experience how natural and diverse the Lithuanian landscape really is. The Eastern part of the country – with two Regional and one National Park – is the place which all birwatchers must visit. Here you will be surrounded by natural meadows, countless lakes, swamps hidden in deep Western Taiga forests, along with quaint ancient villages.This is considered the best area to capture the feeling of Lithuania’s wild and natural beauty.

Target species: Black-throated Diver, Black Stork, Whooper Swan, White-tailed Eagle, Osprey, Lesser and Greater-spoted Eagles, Montagu’s Harrier, Honney Buzzard, Goshawk, Black Grouse, Hazel Grouse, Golden Plover, Marsh Sandpiper, Great Snipe, Caspian Gull, Little Gull, Whiskered Tern, Pygmy Owl, Tengmalm’s Owl, European Nightjar, Grey-headed Woodpecker, White-backed Woodpecker, Tawny Pipit, Citrine Wagtail, Bluethroat, Aquatic Warbler, Blyth’s Reed Warbler, Greenish Warbler, Red-breasted Flycather, Nutcracker, Common Rosefinch, Ortolan Bunting.
